SUSTAIN is a part of of GAC’s initiatives to improve Reproductive, Maternal and Newborn Health in Underserved Areas of WVC is implementing in Kigoma region with SUSTAIN – Kigoma. The project goal is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality in six districts among marginalized and vulnerable women and newborns. Overall the project seeks to improve availability of quality gender responsive maternal adolescent, and newborn health services in underserved districts in Kigoma and to increase utilization of reproductive maternal newborn health services by women and their families. The project incorporates a Result based Management approach to monitoring and evaluating core project outcomes. The overall purpose of this process evaluation is to improve the implementation of SUSTAIN strategies which aims at promoting gender responsive maternal and newborn health services in underserved districts in Kigoma. Specifically, the Process Evaluation (PE) aims at identifying barriers and facilitators for the successful implementation of 3 core approaches embedded within the SUSTAIN project to promote gender equality; youth peer educators, the Men care model and channels of Hope for maternal, Newborn child health (MNCH) Findings will also capture and document early perceived success of these activities in challenging harmful gender norms and in addressing gender inequalities in SUSTAIN Kigoma communities. Learning from the PE will be used to identify and promote best practices embedded in the project implementation process and improve implementation in year 4, the final year of SUSTAIN, develop the evidence based explanation for project outcomes (i.e. what contribute to its success or failure); develop the focus for an augmented project end evaluation; form the basis for recommendations to the regional medical Officer (RMO and staff) and contribute to the improvement of and evidence-base of these models in future World Vision programming.
